How to: Shine on Camera
Going live can be both exciting and nerve wracking. Use our tips below to confidently shine on camera when it's your turn on the virtual stage!
Before Going LIVE
Practice Makes Perfect
Join rehearsing and testing sessions from the same device and internet connection you will be using during the live show to ensure that everything is set up for success.
Be on Time
Make sure to join the Greenroom at least 15 minutes before the show starts. We recommend 30 minutes whenever possible to ensure you have enough time to make any last minute adjustments.
Frame and Light Yourself Well
-
Make sure the light faces you. Avoid any bright, dominant lights or objects behind you in your frame. Backlighting is not your friend.
-
Orient the camera horizontally on both desktop and mobile devices.
-
Check your camera lens for smudges and wipe with soft cloth.
-
If sitting, frame yourself in the center of the video from the chest up. Leave a small space above the top of your head.
-
If standing, frame yourself in the center of the video from the waist up. Leave a small space above the top of your head.
-
Don’t lean too close to the camera.
-
Avoid wearing stripes or patterns. Solid colors are best.
Grab your Headphones
While not required, headphones are nice to have on hand in case there may be background noise in your location. They can also improve your audio quality depending on your device.
Once it’s your turn to go LIVE
High Energy from the Outset
The first 10 seconds sets the tone. Bring the energy to kick it off right.
Center yourself and look into the camera
Your audience will feel more connected to you the most you look into the camera.
Remember to Smile
Happy faces engage better and brighten your audience’s day.
Project your Voice
Clearly enunciate so your audience can easily follow your message.
