Developer Information (Custom Domains)
As a user, you have the ability to host custom apex domains in Streams but, at this time, we only have the capability for subdomains. In this article, we'll talk about how to set up a custom subdomain, custom sender settings, as well as walking through firewall settings.

Custom Subdomain
To set up a custom subdomain for your Brandlive Streams, follow these steps:
- Contact your IT department to create a subdomain for your event and instruct them to point it to customdomains.brandlive.com.
- Contact your Brandlive representative and let them know what your subdomain is and that you are pointing to our servers.
- Your Brandlive representative will create a domain verification endpoint and instructions for you to give to your IT team to create a DNS CNAME record to verify ownership of the domain. This is so that our servers can create an SSL certificate for your content to be delivered securely.
- Once the subdomain is verified, your Brandlive representative will provide you with a second DNS record for your IT team to implement
- This will be a CNAME record (e.g. live.mywebsite.com or www.mywebsite.com)
After your rep connects the new domain to your account, your Brandlive pages will show on your custom domain. This process includes setting up an SSL certificate for your domain and two DNS steps, please allow up to two days for setup.
Good Examples vs. Bad Examples
Note: You must be using a subdomain NOT a subdirectory.
- Good example – subdomain: live.mywebsite.com.
- Bad example – root domain: mywebsite.com
- Bad example – subdirectory: www.mywebsite.com/live
Firewall Settings
In order to view the web page live or recorded video, you will need to ensure that any firewall is configured to allow traffic on specific ports. Web page content and video are delivered from separate locations. A firewall can reside on your local machine, on a corporate firewall, or both.
Basic web page viewing:
All web page content is delivered from *.brandlive.com and *.brand.live
Optimal Firewall Settings Needed for Viewing Video Streams
In order to watch Brandlive video you have to create the following stateful firewall rules, assuming you have a regular internet connection:
- Allow all incoming traffic from brandlive.com and 3f3ccfd20ef6.us-west-2.playback.live-video.net
- Outgoing UDP destination port 53 to your nameserver or any IP for domain name resolution (DNS)
- Outgoing TCP destination port 80, 443 to any IP (WEB)
- Outgoing TCP destination port 1935 to any IP (RTMP - this is used to deliver the stream)
