Feature Overview: Locations
Greenroom is a great production tool regardless of whether you are virtual, live/onsite, or a hybrid of both.
If you use Greenroom to produce live events or webinars virtually as well as live and/or onsite, there's now an option to create and label your onsite locations with their own unique canvas. In this article, we’ll review how and when to implement the Locations feature.
Locations Overview
Locations give producers the flexibility of creating designated camera feeds without requiring a specific presenter username/password. Locations enable Greenroom to know that a feed is onsite. This is important because anyone onsite will not want their own audio going out (specifically the onsite presenters). With presenter(s) somewhere onsite, in-person and likely speaking into a mic or PA system, there would be double-audio without this function turned on.
Another benefit to utilizing Locations is that they allow any producer to join and manage physical location feeds directly from a singular laptop. Each location configured will have its own canvas view to display to the in-person audience and can have a unique image configured if a camera/feed is disconnected.
Adding Locations
- With the feeds tab open, click the “Add” button and select “Location”
- Give your location a name, upload an image, and set a Hold Slide.
Note: A Hold Slide allows you to select an image or video that is gets displayed in that location's feed if it's the only active feed in the canvas.
- Once location is created, you now have a feed card that can be used for building out your Showboard.
Joining a Location Feed’s Onsite Mode
There are two ways to access your location’s onsite feed:
- Open the Feeds tab, identify your location tile, and click the three-dot menu and select “Copy Onsite Link”
- Hover your mouse over your location tile and click on the icon with a monitor/screen.
- Once the location feed has been launched, the new page will show a dropdown menu to confirm the location you are joining from. Once confirmed, the following settings can be adjusted:
-
- Add Cam & Mic - Just like a presenter feed in Greenroom, you can specify the preferred sound and video device you would like to use and can implement any additional effects such as a blur or virtual background.
- Open Canvas in a new window - Will launch a new browser window of that specific location’s canvas. This can be used to put on a large monitor or projector screen for your physical audience.
- Smart Canvas - Canvas will not show that specific locations feed back to itself. (I.E. New York Office location feed will not display “New York Office” location video feed.) This can be used in a scenario where you may have a physical audience that needs to see slides/content a presenter is speaking to, but would not want to see that presenter’s video on screen as they are watching them in person.
- Advanced Audio - This should be used if an audio mixer is being used on location. With this setting enabled, it removes the feedback/echo cancellation to give more control over audio to the on-site team.
- Add Cam & Mic - Just like a presenter feed in Greenroom, you can specify the preferred sound and video device you would like to use and can implement any additional effects such as a blur or virtual background.

Multiple locations can be configured for as many sites as needed for your event. If a production site is utilizing multiple cameras and microphones, it is recommended to run a switched feed into a singular production machine rather than creating multiple feeds for a singular location.
