Registration Restriction by Email Address or Domain Set Up in VX
In VX, for events that require registration, you can restrict your pool of registrants by either whitelisting or blacklisting specific domains or email addresses. To access this feature, navigate to REGISTRATION and scroll down to the section “Email Address And Domain Restriction”
Let’s look at Email Address Restriction first. To enable this feature, click on Edit to expand the menu. The first dropdown in this menu asks you if you want to “Black List (block specific)” or “White List (allow specific)” email addresses. Confirm your selection now, as changing your mind later will delete all emails previously uploaded. Once you make your selection, click on “Add an Email Address” to add one line/email, or you can expand the menu “Import Email Address List”, which will allow you to upload a CSV file.
Click on “Browse” to open a file upload window. Your file must be in a character-separated format such as CSV or tab-delimited where each row of values occupies its own line in the file. Once you have uploaded your file, select the type of column delimiter that matches your file (either Comma or Tab), confirm whether the first row contains column names or not by enabling the toggle, and confirm which column number contains the actual email domains in your document. Once you have set these parameters, click “Start Import.” The domains in your document should now show up in a list:
Once you have uploaded the list, click “Apply” and scroll down to the bottom of the REGISTRATION menu and click “Submit” to save changes.
Now, let’s look at the “Email Domain Restriction” menu. To enable this feature, click on Edit to expand the menu. The first dropdown in this menu asks you to configure the restriction type. Your options are:
- No restriction: registration will be open to all domains
- Allowed Domains (all others will be blocked)
- Blocked Domains (all others will be accepted)
If you selected a restriction, the next dropdown asks you to decide on the Rejection Action. Your options are:
- Do not save information: no records of the blocked registration will be kept
- Save as pending registration: this option will allow you to manually approve or block registrations from domains outside of the list you uploaded (to approve or delete a pending registration, go to REGISTRATION>Registration Activity and search for pending registrations).
- Save as deleted registration: this option will keep a record of the blocked registrations (to access the list of deleted registration, go to REGISTRATION>Registration Activity and search for deleted registrations).
Next, you can add a Rejection Message to display for the users who attempt to register from a domain that is not part of the whitelisted domains by typing or copy-pasting the text into the box.
Below the Rejection Message field is the Email Domain List. To add an email domain to be allowed or blocked, click on “Add an Email domain” to add domains one by one, or expand the menu below, “Import Email Domain Restriction List” to upload a CSV file.
Once you have set these parameters, click “Start Import.” The domains in your document should now show up in a list.
Once you have uploaded the list, click “Apply” and scroll down to the bottom of the REGISTRATION menu and click “Submit” to save changes.
