Choosing an On-Site Feed Type

When running on-site or hybrid productions, your input method into Greenroom determines how much control, flexibility, and scalability your team has.

This guide walks through feed types ideal for on-site and AV production, focusing on:

  • Locations Feed (Standard and SRT configuration)

  • SIP Conference

  • Native Cisco Integration

Locations

Brandlive's Locations feature is built to unify virtual and in-room experiences—from the switcher to the stream. Locations allow you to connect your on-site AV system directly into Greenroom through a standard laptop browser. It’s optimized for venues with full video switchers, audio mixers, and screen projection needs.  Locations offers two different connection protocols:

Standard (Browser-Based WebRTC)

On-site rooms with a switcher/mixer setup and minimal hardware overhead. This option includes the lowest, real-time latency making it the best choice for live communication and interaction between multiple location sites.

Requirements:

  • Laptop with Chrome and stable internet

  • USB Capture Card or native USB from switcher

Technical Notes:

  • Lowest latency for real-time communication

  • Plug-and-play via browser

  • Runs on minimal hardware with robust audio/video management

SRT Enabled (using hardware or software encoders)

The current Gold Standard for Professional AV. Best when a higher latency can be exchanged for higher video stability, quality, and encryption.

Requirements:

  • SRT-compatible encoder (e.g., OBS, vMix, TriCaster)

Technical Notes:

  • Highest possible quality for a live stream

  • More reliability over unstable/low bandwidth networks

  • Supports encrypted transmission and fine-tuned latency settings

  • Managed through the same Locations control panel, but uses a dedicated encoder instead of the browser interface

Native Conference Room Integration

Best for: Enterprise events requiring IT-approved connections and High-security environments with standardized gear.

Requirements: Cisco Webex Room device

Tech Highlights: Direct and secure connection to Greenroom, simplifies Webex-based workflows, supports high-quality AV from standardized endpoints.

  • Ideal for exec comms or IT-approved environments

Enterprise-grade, secure, and smooth. Consider this if You work in a Cisco-first enterprise environment and need a native, secure, and low-maintenance integration.

SIP Conference Connection

Best for: Teams using traditional video conferencing hardware (Zoom Rooms, Polycom, Lifesize)

Requirements: SIP-compatible conference hardware (works with most conference room solutions)

Tech Highlights:  uses (Session Initiation Protocol) for video call-style connection, reliable for static room setups (ceiling mics, cameras, etc.), only one-way video with Greenroom

Consider this option if you want to bring a boardroom into your event using existing infrastructure without additional hardware investment.

Note: There are a few limitations to be aware of when using SIP with greenroom such as partial backstage comms. Review the full article for more information.

When in doubt, start with where the presenter or content is coming from (home setup, on stage, conference room?) and how much control or quality you need.

Feed Type Control Level Visual Quality Setup Complexity Typical Latency # of Locations Best For
Locations (Standard) High High (WebRTC + HDMI) Low-Medium Lowest 1–∞ (Greenroom managed) Hybrid setups, in-room screen control, limited AV gear
Locations (SRT Enabled) Highest Broadcast-grade (SRT) High High 1–∞ (Greenroom managed) High-quality AV routing, redundancy, secure transport
SIP Conference Low Moderate (compressed) Low Moderate 1–many (SIP endpoint) Plug-and-play SIP codecs (Zoom Rooms, Polycom, etc.)
Native Cisco Integration Low Moderate (Webex Native) Low Moderate 1–many (Webex-enabled) Cisco-equipped boardrooms, exec conference rooms
