Feature Overview: SRT Connection

SRT stands for Secure Reliable Transport—and in the world of live-streaming, it’s the gold standard for broadcast-quality video delivery.

SRT is a high-performance, UDP-based video streaming protocol designed to deliver low-latency, high-quality, and secure video over unpredictable networks. It is typically used for professional or broadcast-grade streams where precision, stability, and video fidelity are critical.

Choose SRT if your event requires any of the following:

• Highest live streaming quality takes precedence over latency

• External encoding workflows via platforms like OBS, vMix, Wirecast, TriCaster, or hardware encoders

• A need for stable delivery over less-reliable networks (e.g., global stream contributions)

• A remote contribution from an external studio or satellite uplink

• A requirement for fine-grained control over encoder settings and bitrate

Things to Consider:

To ensure optimal stream performance, it’s critical to configure your encoder with the correct network settings, latency buffers, and packet size parameters.

Ensure outbound UDP traffic is allowed on the SRT port provided by Brandlive. If your organization uses strict firewall rules, whitelist the ingest IPs and ports as needed.

How to Configure an SRT Feed in Greenroom

1. Navigate to the Feeds Tab and select "Add" and Location

2. At the bottom of the Location edit panel, see a new button that says “Add SRT Endpoint”

   

3. After adding the SRT Endpoint, the SRT Connection credentials will become visible with the option to copy all. 

   

4. These credentials should be entered into the SRT enabled Encoder.

Preview the SRT in the Feeds Menu

SRT feeds work a little differently than your typical webcam or SIP connection—so if you're looking for that familiar preview thumbnail, don’t panic when it’s not there.

Instead, just hover over the SRT feed card in your Feeds tab and click the eye icon to preview the live input. Once clicked, a separate preview window will launch, showing you what’s coming through the pipe.

When the SRT feed is actively live on your canvas, the feed card will clearly show "Live", so there's never a question about what’s on air. Clean, intentional, and fully under your control.

Adding SRT from the Location Launch Screen

When the Location feed is launched by the AV team onsite, if SRT was previously selected/enabled in Greenroom, the option will be available in the default dropdown menu. 

The user can also click to show the SRT credentials directly from the Location Feed screen.
