Livestream and VOD delivery in China

Content Delivery in China

Since China is an increasingly large part of the global economy, this means China is one of the most rapidly-growing markets for growing your audience. However, streaming to China can be a challenge for a number of reasons including: Content Restrictions, Slow Video Speeds, Blocked Services/Providers ("The Great Firewall"), and Server Locations.

Brandlive partners with a 3rd party vendor that has been very successful in delivering content to China.

Restrictions

China has strict rules on what content is allowed to be streamed which includes, but is not exclusive to:

  • Politics
  • Names of Chinese dissidents or protest groups
  • Historical protests and footage
  • Pornography, adult & other sexual content including adult eCommerce
  • Gambling, violence and profane language
  • Consumption of alcohol
  • Content regarding Hong Kong, Taiwan, Tibet or Xinjiang
  • Entertainment content that portrays China negatively
  • Entertainment content that contains ‘Winnie the Pooh’

Request Process

The following steps can be taken to request the China Streaming components. The support team will provide streaming details as well as a player to embed specifically for the China stream.

  • Submit Professional Service Request Including:
    • Date/Time & Duration of the Live Event
    • Date/Time for Stream Test (if requested)
    • A Thumbnail file to be used as a standby image in the player
    • Brief Description of the Covered Topic (China cares about this)
  • Have your IT department assist you in whitelisting the following domains:
  • BL Solutions Team sets up  RTMP URL and Stream Key specifically to be used for China targeted streams as well as an embed code for the video player.
  • BL Solutions Team will configure the China targeted session based on the details provided and confirm once complete.
