Recommended Specifications for Video Uploads
What are the recommended specifications for videos uploaded to Studio as sources or webcast media?
A: Videos uploaded to Studio must be less than 4 GB in size and the file name must be less than 95 characters. Make sure there are no special characters including periods found in the file name. The video's bitrate should closely match the bitrate set in the webcast's settings. Below are the default bitrates for each frame size. Please consult this article if using a bitrate other than the default bitrate for your webcast's frame size.
Frame Size | Default Bitrate |
1080p (1920x1080 16:9) | 3000 kbps |
720p (1280x720 16:9) HB | 1600 kbps |
720p (1280x720 16:9) | 1600 kbps |
540p (960 x 540) 16:9 | 1000 kbps |
360p (640 x 360) 16:9 | 800 kbps |
180p (320x 180) 16:9 | 300 kbps |
QVGA (320x240) 4:3 | 300 kbps |
HVGA (480 x 360) 4:3 | 500 kbps |
VGA (640 x 480) 4:3 | 800 kbps |
The video's bitrate can be determined by going to the file's properties. In Windows, this can be seen in the details tab. The data rate indicates the video bitrate and the total bitrate indicates the combined video and audio bitrate.
The recommended audio bitrate for video files is 128 kbps and the recommended audio sample rate is 44.100 kHz.
In the situation that the encoding can't be pushed lower without the quality becoming unacceptable, the media file should be divided into 2 parts and uploaded separately. These two separate uploaded files can then be combined within the Media Editor to form a single file media version. An mp4 as the file format is most commonly used and works well.
